Position Description

The Director's Office Intern will provide administrative and project management support to the Museum's Executive Director, Executive Coordinator, and Board of Trustees. The intern will perform duties such as compilation of Board materials (i.e. rosters, committee descriptions, event schedules, etc.), will assist with staff events and learning programs provided through OMCA-You, and will provide project management support for special initiatives. In Summer 2018, the focus in project management will be on planning for the Museum's 50th Anniversary in 2019.


Educational Objective:

Through this internship, students will learn about the inner workings of Museum executive and volunteer leadership. The intern will gain knowledge about non-profit governance, organizational strategic and management, and will have broad exposure to a wide range of Museum functions with which the Executive Director and Executive Coordinator interact on a daily basis. In Summer 2018, the intern will have particular exposure to project management for a large institution-wide initiative and will interface with staff in a variety of departments including Exhibitions, Public Programs, Development, and Facilities.


Under the close supervision of the Executive Director, the intern will learn about and gain direct experience in:


  • Coordinating interdepartmental project meetings and taking notes
  • Preparing governance materials and documents
  • Performing online research about other museums and organizations
  • Coordinating staff education and social events
  • Preparing visual presentations
  • Editing and preparing documents for distribution internally and externally






  • Interest in non-profit institutions and cultural organizations
  • Experience with MS Office and Google Suite platforms, particularly Word, Powerpoint, and Google Docs
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Comfort with working with a wide range of people, from Museum staff, to Board members, to members of the public
  • Some experience in coordinating meetings or events (such as school clubs) is helpful



While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to the following:

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds (Not sure that applies here; should be language for basic office duties)
