Job Description:

Background:  The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum based in Pomona, California celebrates the impact of motorsports on American culture. The Museum collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets the vehicles, stories and artifacts that represent America’s affection for, and the influence of, automotive speed and style in all its forms.

General Description: Reporting to the Executive Director, the manager will be the primary person responsible for fundraising for the Museum, from developing and running the Museum’s membership program to seeking and obtaining financial and other support from major donors.  Additionally, the manager will work as the PR ambassador by networking and representing the museum to corporate and enthusiast communities and to the media.  This includes speaking on behalf of the museum at public and private events with clarity, energy and enthusiasm and by writing press release, creating multimedia presentations and developing and updating the museum’s website.

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will have a broad skillset and experience (life, work, education) to perform all of the above responsibilities and then some.  The Museum has a large mission and a small staff.  You must be willing and able to pitch in as a part of the Museum team and do whatever is necessary – you may be designing a program in the morning and personally executing on it in the afternoon.  Must be able to manage situations in an environment that can be fast-paced and dynamic but also has quiet times where you will need to work independently to advance the Museum’s initiatives.  Resilience and humor is preferred; must understand and be comfortable in the automotive enthusiast culture.  Ideally will have demonstrated experience building, nurturing and creating relationships with board, donors, philanthropic foundations, community leaders, political and business leaders, and other stakeholders.  We need a self-starter with strong organizational skills coupled with the ability to work under many priorities and deadlines plus a talent to work effectively with others at all levels.  Knowledge and passion for the hot rod culture or automotive history is necessary.

Compensation:  Salary is based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.  The compensation package includes generous vacation and paid time off; medical/dental/vision insurance along with short and long term disability coverage.  After six months of continuous employment, the NHRA Museum offers a 401(k) Salary Savings Program with employer match.
