Museum Educator      

The mission of the Clackamas County Historical Society is to enrich the lives of current and future generations through collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history and culture of Clackamas County.

An essential part of the museum team, the Museum Educator provides the highest standards of interpretation and audience engagement by implementing education programs. The position also coordinates events relevant to our audiences and based on our mission. The position reports to the Executive Director.

Job type: 40 hours/week; no benefits                                         Wage: $16.00-$20.00/hour non-exempt

Experience, Preferred Qualifications, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college/university in education, history, museum studies, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least one year of experience in the museum or education fields working directly with youth in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated success in creating education programs for museums, school children, families, or communities.
  • Working knowledge of Oregon history and awareness of the Oregon Social Sciences Standards.
  • Familiarity with the American Alliance of Museums standards and best practices in museum education.
  • Displays excellent and respectful communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in collaborating with coworkers, visitors, volunteers, and leadership.
  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor and is a team player willing to collaborate for institutional success.

Position Description Specific Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Executive Director, plan, create, and schedule 4th -12th grade education programs that develop connections between exhibits, collections, and school curriculum.
  • Create museum programs that adhere to American Alliance of Museums best practices and align with Oregon Department of Education standards.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to research and design the educational interactives for the Timeline Hall Exhibit.
  • Create a welcoming space for all visitors by engaging guests and sharing the history of Clackamas County to enhance the overall museum experience.

Work Environment

  • The position is located at the Museum of the Oregon Territory and the Stevens-Crawford Heritage House.
  • The work schedule for this position is approximately 40 hours/week. Must be available Tuesday - Saturday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM with occasional evening hours.
  • Physical activity may include moderate lifting, kneeling, bending, and using stairs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
