San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) seeks Visitor Relations Associates who will greet guests, handle admissions, answer phone and in-person inquiries, and support gift shop sales.  

SDAI is an 8,000 square foot contemporary art center located in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Founded in 1941, SDAI has evolved into a showcase featuring contemporary art and artists living in Southern California and Northern Baja. Current programming includes six major annual exhibitions, an active artist-in-residence program, and a robust series of lectures, workshops, performances, and social events, as well as youth arts education and community outreach. We seek to provide insight into the artistic process, foster community partnerships, and encourage appreciation and respect for the abundant talent that resides in and animates the region.


Greet Guests – Welcome guests as they enter the SDAI premises, provide background information regarding SDAI programming including current exhibition, respond to inquiries about SDAI, answer phone calls.

Handle Admission & Sales Transactions  – Receive and record entrance fees and purchases; promote sales of SDAI memberships.

Support Gift Shop – Promote sale of goods in gift shop and properly record transactions.

Perform Misc Responsibilities – Open and close facility; make calls to SDAI members and others as directed by the Deputy Director; undertake light clerical duties.


  • Directly related work experience in reception, retail sales, customer relations, etc .
  • An interest in and commitment to the mission of SDAI.


  • Graphic Design skills
  • Bookkeeping skills
  • Knowledge of Adobe Plus, Excel and Square


This is a part-time position requiring at least 15 and up to 30 hours per week, including occasional weekend and evening responsibilities. Salary is $11.50-$12.50 per hour depending on experience.
