Associate Education Curator, Part-Time - Sonoma County Museum. The Associate Education Curator is responsible for all aspects of the education programs and for enhancing the visitor experience at the Sonoma County Museum.  This is a public outreach position with the purpose of supporting the museum’s programs and mission.

The main focus of this position is to develop and evaluate comprehensive education & visitor services programs: school programs, teacher materials and exhibition-related adult and youth education programs, community outreach programs for children and youth, and volunteer training and recruitment.

Project Manager: Collections Storage Renovation - San Diego Museum of Man, San Diego, California,

Established in 1915, the San Diego Museum of Man is an anthropology museum with an exceptional collection of over 100,000 objects, nearly 50,000 photographic images and a scientific library of approximately 50,000 volumes.  The museum currently occupies the landmark California Building and Quadrangle that were constructed in 1915-1916. These buildings, while historic, do not provide inadequate storage for the collection.  The museum is now beginning a comprehensive, multi-year project to bring the collection storage space up to current museum standards and to create a state-of-the-art facility that provides access to the collection to researchers, scholars, and members of the communities represented in the collections.

The museum is seeking a Project Manager to coordinate the project.  This first phase will be focused on securing preservation of and access to the organic objects, namely the textiles, in the museum’s collection. This is a grant-funded position. 

Position description: The Project Manager will oversee the storage renovation project ensuring that all projects goals are met on a timely basis and within budget.  The candidate will be responsible for developing procedures, supervising all project-related work activities and staff, and ensuring the care of the collection during the move.  In addition, the Project Manager will be involved in fundraising to ensure support for the subsequent phases of the storage renovation project. 

Key responsibilities include:  1) Plan, prioritize, and coordinate all project activities to achieve goals within established budget and on a timely basis; 2) Develop project procedures and work-flow for tracking objects, written and photographic documentation, handling, conservation, integrated pest management, packing, transportation and storage; 3) Manage project staff ; 4) Manage physical move of collections to temporary off-site storage facility; 4) Organize and supervise all project procedures to ensure the care of the collection throughout the storage renovation; 5) Oversee staff health and safety throughout the project; and 6) Collaborate with Museum of Man staff for fundraising and grant writing.

Qualifications and Requirements include: 1) Minimum of Bachelor’s degree; 2) Project management experience; 3) Experience or training in moving museum collections, as well as a knowledge of collections management and collections documentation; 4) Computer skills, familiarity with museum management software; 5) Strong communication (both oral and written) skills; 6) Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; and 7) Fundraising and grant-writing experience a plus.

Registrar  - The Wende Museum and Archive of the Cold War, located in Los Angeles, is the leading international institutional repository of Eastern European Cold War history, culture and art, with a collection of more than 100,000 objects. We are looking for a qualified full-time REGISTRAR to join our dynamic projects. Challenges include:

  • Manage all museum collections including: planning and overseeing all registration, cataloging, organization, storage, maintenance and preservation (archival, artifact, art and library);

  • Identify and purchase proper supplies;

  • Research specific collections related issues, and consult appropriate specialists

  • Act as liaison between collection and visitor; provide tours, create didactics, provide reference/research assistance and access to the collection for interested scholars and the public;

  • Process loan agreements;

  • Contribute to collection development (acquisitions);

  • Keep abreast of developments in the collection management/museum field;

  • Recruit, train, and supervise Museum Aides (interns, work-study students and docents);

  • Knowledge of the Russian and/or German language and of subject is highly desirable.

Membership Manager - The Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, CA seeks a Membership Manager to plan, manage and direct the Museum's membership program.  This position will be responsible for marketing membership; identifying new members and retaining/upgrading current members.  Among other duties, the Membership Manager will establish membership levels fulfill benefits and establish recognition programs; he/she will collaborate with the marketing department to create membership promotions in the MoLAA bi-monthly and quarterly publications, as well as direct mail campaigns. Executive Director/Curator of Art, (Full Time, Exempt) - The Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell, Montana, is seeking an Executive Director / Curator of Arts who is a dynamic, mission-driven, community-oriented, inspiring arts leader. The Hockaday Museum is nationally recognized for its curatorial focus on the art and artists of Montana and Glacier National Park. Programs Coordinator - The Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum is accepting applications for a Programs Coordinator

Institution:  The Homestead Museum is a six-acre historic site that interprets the diverse history of southern California and the Workman and Temple families from 1830 to 1930 in order to foster an understanding of how history impacts our lives.  This beautifully landscaped Museum features the Workman House, an 1870s picturesque country home constructed around an 1840s adobe built by William and Nicolasa Workman; La Casa Nueva, a Spanish Colonial Revival mansion built in the 1920s by the Workmans' grandson Walter P. Temple and his wife Laura; and El Campo Santo, one of the oldest private cemeteries in southern California. Located about twenty miles east of downtown Los Angeles, the Museum offers a variety of educational and entertaining programs, such as guided tours, festivals, lectures, and workshops, to a diverse and multicultural audience.

Job description:  The Programs Coordinator is responsible for proposing, developing, coordinating, and promoting programs primarily focused on youth in grades pre K-12.  Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: coordinating the development, execution, and evaluation of school based and non-school based programs; coordinating training for classroom and museum teachers; assisting with public programs and off-site presentations; assisting with training, supervising, evaluating, and rewarding volunteer staff; researching and interpreting historical materials; and assisting with exhibition planning. Other duties include serving on and facilitating teams and supervising the site on selected days, including some weekends and holidays.  The Programs Coordinator reports directly to the Public Programs Manager, has exempt status, and works full time (40 hours per week). 

Qualifications:  Requirements include a BA in museum studies, education, history, or equivalent from an accredited institution; experience in successfully executing school based and non-school based programs; excellent writing, speaking, interpersonal, organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills; and computer literacy.  Preference will be given to candidates with an MA in the above mentioned fields, or equivalent; two or more years experience in teaching, developing programs and/or curriculum for elementary school-age children; two or more years experience managing projects and/or volunteers; experience in museum interpretation and historical research; experience in working on teams; and Spanish or Chinese fluency.  Essential functions for this position include the ability to speak, read, and write English fluently; climb and descend ladders and stairs to a height of 15 feet; lift and carry loads up to 20 pounds; type at least 30 words per minute; and drive an automobile.

Salary:  $36,000 annually.  Benefits include vacation and sick leave; fully paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage; and a retirement plan.

An historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and located in Woodside, California, Filoli Center is a non-profit institution situated on a 650-acre site with an historic house, 16 acres of formal garden and a nature preserve.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Educational Programming is responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive, integrated education program that is consistent with Filoli’s strategic mission and reflects Filoli’s unique attributes. This position reports to the Executive Director and manages a staff of one full-time and one part-time person. Position is full-time, exempt and requires periodic weekend and/or evening service.
