Job Description: 

Part Time / 25+ hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday, occasional evenings, and varying schedules. The Museum is an EOE.

 

As an Education Associate and Visitor Services Officer (VSO) for the Nevada Museum of Art, this position will be an advocate for visitor’s educational experience within the Museum. This position will provide support to school tours as a Museum Gallery Educator, while supporting ongoing public programs and outreach events. When assigned, this position will support the daily operations of the Museum as a VSO in the galleries, at admissions or in the Shop. This position reports to the Gallery Education Team Manager and the Manager of Visitor Services. 

 

EDUCATION ASSOCIATE TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively participate in weekly Education Department meetings to provide collaboration between departments to meet Museum wide educational goals. 
  • Participate in school tour training and be able to lead virtual or in person field trip.
  • Be available to provide administrative and programmatic support to the Museum’s education department when assigned (this may include supporting public programs, outreach events, the Museum School, Hands ON! and the Scholastic Art Awards program).
  • Attend ongoing exhibition training and be able to exhibit working knowledge of the artwork featured in the Museum’s galleries and the Museum’s mission and brand.

VISITOR SERVICES TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a liaison and mentor for Museum educational philosophies and best practices within the Visitor Services department. 
  • Greet guests and provide initial orientation to the Museum galleries. 
  • Connect with a variety of guests with diverse interests in a manner that enhances their general understanding of art and the Museum by providing information and maintaining a courteous and helpful attitude.
  • Resolve guest concerns and complaints as a service advocate for the guests and the Museum.
  • Exhibit working knowledge of the artwork featured in the Museum’s galleries, the Museum’s mission, facilities and programming. 
  • Practice Museum policies and procedures to ensure the safety of guests and artwork. 
  • Respond to emergencies and initiate emergency procedures.
  • Maintain Museum security by paying attention to entry points, unauthorized touching, handling, or tampering with artwork, and unusual or suspicious activities. Report any incidents directly to the manager on duty. 
  • Be available for membership, shop, admission, and ticket sales. 
  • Practices and adhere to cash control and POS guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Customer service, sales, teaching, education, or leadership experience preferred. Must have strong critical thinking skills and an openness to learn new things. Ability to provide the highest level of customer service and leadership at all times, while actively listening and engaging with guests and staff in a positive and professional manner. Ability to exercise good judgment and problem solving. Ability to stand for long periods of time is required. Preferred software experience includes Word, Outlook, Excel, database (operation and data entry) and varied POS systems.

This position starts at $15.00/hr
