What you will be doing:
This role supports the Washington State Historical Society's (WSHS) mission of "partnering with our communities to explore how history connects us all" through design, production for print/digital/other media, and other tasks related to collateral, reports, presentations, signage, publications, and other communications media for WSHS.
As the Senior Designer, you will collaborate with staff in all agency departments, with partner organizations, and with vendors and contractors to develop materials needed to tell the story of Washington's history and to support ongoing programs/initiatives of WSHS. Your work will provide excellent digital and print communications to share the agency's work with communities across Washington and beyond.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for someone that has pride in their work and enjoys connecting with others. You’re someone who loves what you do, and you’re proactive. You are comfortable collaborating as well as working independently. You pay close attention to details and are motivated to provide superior customer service. You make a practice of setting priorities. You can describe the reasoning behind design choices, and be flexible with rounds of edits or changes as you work with WSHS colleagues to develop beautifully designed and coherent communications pieces. You are curious and want to know more about all aspects of WSHS’s work, because learning about us and our constituents informs your design and enhances your success in this role. You’re also not bothered by administrative tasks like swapping out the old publications for new iterations, and you’re interested in participating in WSHS programs and events.
Why YOU would want this job:
If you take pride in serving the community and affecting the lives of tens of thousands of people. If you appreciate seeing your daily tangible accomplishments. If you are passionate about telling the story of Washington's history and sharing its beauty. If you have always loved museums and learning.
We’re not a typical state office building – you’ll enjoy working in the Washington State History Museum located in the heart of Tacoma's Museum District. You will work with vibrant staff that have fun and a passion for sharing history with our visitors.
