Membership and Events Manager

THE ORGANIZATION

The Frye Art Museum is a living legacy of visionary patronage and civic responsibility, committed to artistic inquiry and a rich visitor experience. A catalyst for our engagement with contemporary art and artists is the Founding Collection of Charles and Emma Frye, access to which shall always be free.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Frye Art Museum is seeking a creative, energetic, and detail-oriented person to join its Development team to manage and grow the Museum’s Membership program and associated events. Reporting to and collaborating with the Senior Director of Development, the Membership and Events Manager will identify and act on opportunities to grow membership and revenue at all levels, effectively message membership and its impact, and create opportunities for member engagement. With support of the Membership Associate and the development team, the Membership and Events Manager plans and carries out a calendar of member and donor events (virtual and in person) with the goal of thanking our supporters, building public visibility, and cultivating new possibilities.

STATUS:               Full-Time, 35 hours per week

BENEFITS:            Full benefits including medical, dental, vacation accrual, 403b, and more

SALARY RANGE: $62,000-69,000

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS                                                                                                                                                               

  • Manage the Membership program to meet the Frye’s annual financial and programmatic goals, including ensuring program growth, high retention of members, recapture of lapsed members, and robust membership acquisition.
  • Design and fulfill mission-centric and patron-valued benefits (in person and virtual) to thank existing members, encourage their increased investment, and promote their engagement. Innovate existing benefits to develop higher levels, to value inclusion, to promote new members and build affiliate groups, such as Young Supporters and Contemporary Council).
  • Grow corporate membership program by encouraging local businesses to join and identifying local partners for membership discounts.
  • Collaboratively Museum-wide to develop and maintain the annual calendar of events including membership, donor cultivation, and stewardship events, such as exhibition openings, member events, and VIP receptions.
  • Implement (and revise as necessary) effective systems for membership appeals, mailings and digital communications, including acquisitions, renewals, upgrades, event invitations, and general communications.
  • Manage event logistics, including assessing needs and developing event timelines, scheduling, overseeing external vendors (artists, caterers, photographers, etc.), preparing contracts, securing necessary permits, and identifying AV/technical needs.
  • Write persuasive copy for a variety of purposes, platforms, and audiences (print, email, social media, on-site, and the Museum webpage).
  • Develop and track revenue and expense budgets for membership and events.
  • Track progress of program and review monthly membership dashboards with Database Associate.
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Development to identify members as prospective major donors to build higher-level membership and major donor pipeline.
  • Work collaboratively with department colleagues, effectively delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • Supervise the Membership Associate and the Visitor Services Representative.
  • Work collaboratively across all Museum departments as necessary, including volunteers and interns.
  • Participate in staff-wide DEAI trainings in order to contribute to an inclusive space for visitors and to implement relevant strategies and best practices in this role.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Strong organizational and project management skills. Attention to details and deadlines and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, delegating as appropriate.

  • Ability to plan and implement projects and events, working with internal and external partners and vendors
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs and interests of diverse prospects, donors, and community members in order to develop and sustain constituent relationships.
  • Problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain a calm demeanor and a sense of humor during occasionally stressful social circumstances.
  • Ability to regularly work outside the normal workday, including evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency with digital platforms and tools, including Zoom, Teams, Microsoft Office Suite, and Basecamp).
  • Familiarity with constituent databases and/or ability to learn new database quickly

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of three years direct experience and successful track record in fundraising, membership, or annual giving.
  • Interest in the arts, contemporary art or museums desirable

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is eligible for a hybrid in-person/remote work arrangement with regular in-office worktimes as arranged with their manager. 

Work areas are inside, in a climate-controlled environment. Shift times may vary to meet the Museum's requirement to staff the facilities at all hours. Work may require long periods of sustained standing during Museum events

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • SITTING/STANDING/WALKING: Approximately 70% of time is spent seated while working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 30%) is spent standing or moving around the work area. Ability to stand for extended periods of time when assisting at Museum events.
  • SPEAKING/HEARING: Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with the public, and co-workers.
  • LIFTING/CARRYING/PUSHING/PULLING: The ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds is necessary for moving material and equipment for events.
  • VISION: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use the computer screens.
  • STOOPING/KNEELING: The ability to stoop and kneel is necessary for accessing files.
  • REACHING/HANDLING: Good manual dexterity is necessary for computer keyboard use and for retrieving and working with appropriate paperwork, equipment, and supplies.
