Located on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City, the UMFA serves public and university audiences and is the only institution in the Intermountain West region that collects, exhibits, interprets, and cares for an extensive collection of artworks representing a diverse range of global cultures from ancient to contemporary. This position will work collaboratively with the development team to oversee membership fulfillment, growth, and database management. Using strategic and thoughtful techniques, this position will maintain and expand fundraising activities at the Museum by developing and disseminating all General and Art Lovers membership materials and messaging, creating and managing membership events, and facilitating all gift processing. As an integral part of the development team, this position will be a liaison with other departments inside the Museum, as well as an advocate and positive driver for external relationships with the general public as well as University colleagues.  Clear written and verbal communication, thoughtful creativity, and kindness are central to the position.


  1. Strategically maintain and grow an engaging membership program
  2. Be responsible for related revenue goals and strategies
  3. Process membership gifts, acknowledgements, and ensure fulfillment of membership benefits
  4. Develop membership materials and strategic communications regularly (print and electronic)
  5. Create and manage cultivation and stewardship events for members
  6. Lead the UMFA “quarterly” publication process in coordination with marketing & graphic design team members
  7. Collect data, prepare, and analyze monthly/yearly membership reports
  8. Research and implement new trends and practices in Museum membership
  9. Provide excellent customer service to members both in person and electronically
  10. Manage the database in an organized and timely fashion, create new accounts when necessary
  11. Attend internal UMFA committee meetings and prepare other reports relevant to the position
  12. Support additional fundraising activities as necessary


  1. Passion for the arts and the value they bring to a community and a University campus
  2. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discreet judgment
  3. Previous customer service experience
  4. Ability to generate ideas and collaborate with others
  5. Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats with colleagues, members and donors, including phone calls/texts, emails, and face to face meetings.
  6. Self-motivated and organized
  7. Budget-conscious and motivated to increase revenue and membership at the UMFA
  8. Proficient with Microsoft Office and Outlook
  9. Raiser’s Edge and/or Salesforce experience prioritized – or a willingness and ability to master the use of a complex database system
  10. Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
  11. Previous events experience
