As the national repository of Japanese American history, the Japanese American National Museum (“JANM”) creates groundbreaking historical and arts exhibitions, educational public programs, award-winning documentaries, and innovative curriculum that illuminate the stories and the rich cultural heritage of people of Japanese ancestry in the United States. JANM also speaks out when diversity, individual dignity, and social justice are undermined, vigilantly sharing the hard-fought lessons accrued from this history. A Smithsonian Affiliate and AAM accredited, JANM is located in the historic Little Tokyo district and conveniently located across the street from the Little Tokyo/Arts District Metro Station for Lines A & E.
The Executive Assistant is responsible for supporting the communications and logistics functions for the Executive Office by providing administrative and project management support to the Executive Office, which includes the President and CEO, the Chief Impact Officer and Chief Financial Officer. They serve as a critical conduit, managing communications and access between the Executive Office and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including the museum Board, staff, volunteers, donors, and others. This is an opportunity to work closely with museum leadership on critical initiatives, often balancing simultaneous priorities. 

This role requires strong customer service skills and discretion in dealing with confidential matters. At least 5 years of advanced professional administrative assistance experience and 3 years of successful project management experience is desired. Applicants should have experience coordinating both on-site and off-site meetings, conferences, and special events. Previous experience working in complex nonprofit or corporate environments is desired, and board governance support is helpful. Ability to able to work on own initiative with a minimum of supervision, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required. 
Experience working in a diverse, multi-cultural environment is preferable. Knowledge of Japanese American/Asian American history and culture a plus. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Tech savvy – facility with spreadsheets, databases, online research and donor tracking and presentation software is required. Experienced with MS Office, Google suite and Zoom.  Will require occasional weekend and evening hours based upon Executive Office events. $25.00 to $27.00 per hour DOE.
