Job Description

Curators perform a broad range of professional and technical museum work involving, but not limited to, assessment, evaluation, survey, inventory, preservation, research, education and planning for a specific collection and/or program area within a museum.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

The Nevada State Museum Carson City (NSMCC) in the Division of Museums and History within the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs is seeking to fill a Curator 2. The duties include the creation and implementation of policies and procedures. The Curator 2 will manage databases, strategic planning, budget management, staff supervision, project fundraising, participation in public programs, and providing reports to the Board of Museums and History. Additionally, the position plays an active role in the day-to-day operations of the NSMCC school and lifelong education. The Curator 2 can expect to spend part of their time in work that sustains the Nevada State Museum's experience and advances the overall mission and strategic plan of the institution. This includes supporting on-site and virtual programs for all ages, volunteer recruitment and support, research and instruction, developing new initiatives, assistance with grant-writing, and continuous involvement with community partners. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.
