Job Description: Executive Director for the Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch

Overview 

Status: Full-time, at will, salaried, exempt from overtime, days and hours to be determined with Board of Trustees’ approval.  

Salary: Starting, $70,000.00, with annual review and possible increases at the discretion of the Board of Trustees. 

Benefits: Four weeks of paid time off (PTO), with the choice annually to transfer up to one week of unused PTO to the following year.  No health insurance or retirement benefits other than Social Security are provided in the compensation package. Benefit package adjustments are at the discretion of the Board of Trustees. 

Supervises: Provides direction to other employees and volunteers

Reporting: Reports to the Board of Trustees and its President

Job Description 

The Director takes the lead role in all areas of management and development relating to operating the Dangberg Home  Ranch Historic Park. The Director helps organize and participate in monthly board meetings held by the Trustees of the  Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch. Though subject to Board oversight, the Director acts proactively and independently to  create and accomplish organizational goals in conjunction with established committees in the following areas: 
 

Administration 30% 

  1. Provides leadership in the management and development of Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch and the daily operation of the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.
  2. In coordination with the Events Manager, recruits, coordinates, trains, supervises, and motivates volunteers to accomplish organizational goals.
  3. Participates in financial management, including tracking income and expenses, making bank deposits, preparing and managing an annual budget according to policy, assisting in the preparation of tax returns, and cooperating with and supporting the Treasurer.
  4. Provides support to the Board of Trustees in conducting meetings and decision-making related to insurance, board growth and development, government filings, and similar management tasks.
  5. Participates in organizational planning, goal setting, and policy development.
  6. Works collaboratively with Douglas County staff and other stakeholders as appropriate in developing and implementing policies, mission and vision statements, and goals for the organization.
  7. In cooperation with the Board of Trustees, manages compliance with the terms of the operating agreement with Douglas County.
  8. Plans and acquires supplies and equipment.
     

Fundraising 20% 

  1. When the Board of Trustees identifies, plans, and institutes a dedicated fundraiser annually, the Director will  support the Board of Trustees in this activity.
  2. Seeks and acquires donations from visitors and the community, including the management of a membership program, to achieve annual budget and organizational goals.
  3. Identifies and pursues grants to achieve annual budget and organizational goals.
  4. Manages and monitors facility and equipment rentals at the park.
  5. Creates and distributes a quarterly member newsletter, with information on fundraising, projects,  events, and programs. 

 

Collection Management 20% 

  1. Identifies items/artifacts that need restoration, preservation, and safe storage to maintain and  promote the history of the Dangberg Home Ranch and the Dangberg family, including the accession of  new materials and de-accessioning, all in coordination with Douglas County.
  2. Seeks out funding to restore, preserve, store, and catalog items/artifacts that are part of the  collection, using professional museum management techniques and standards.
  3. Ensures that items/artifacts are available for review, as appropriate, by the Board of Trustees,  Douglas County staff, Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch, other groups with interest in the history of  artifacts/items, and the public.
  4. Coordinates with Douglas County, as needed, other staff, and volunteers to catalog and safely store items/artifacts to meet best practices and standards, including pest management. 

 

Site Management 15% 

  1. Supports the maintenance and repair of the park’s structures and other facilities, including making routine inspections of the buildings and grounds.
  2. Coordinates with Douglas County personnel and contractors to accomplish repairs, and supervises volunteers in that regard.
  3. Manages the park’s store, including inventory selection and purchasing, pricing, and related activities.
  4. Coordinates and oversees the development and care of the park’s gardens.
  5. Coordinates and oversees the cleaning of building interiors and exteriors
  6. Greets and orients drop-in visitors.
  7. Coordinates with staff to schedule tours, visits, and day use of the property.

 

Cultural, Interpretive, and Educational Programming 10% 

  1. Participates in the planning and development of cultural, interpretive, and educational programs, performances, and exhibits.
  2. Delegates specific implementation responsibilities to staff, Board of Trustees or individual Trustees, members, and volunteers.
  3. Works with staff and others to promote cultural, interpretive, and educational programs, performances, and exhibits.
  4. Evaluates the effectiveness of the educational programs, performances, and exhibits toward achieving the goals of the Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch.

 

Marketing and Public Relations 5% 

  1. Creates marketing plans and implements a public information program that generates visitors and donors and represents the organization effectively.
  2. Generates the member newsletter, press releases, event announcements, advertising, social media, presentations, and other strategies to achieve visitation and organization goals.
  3. Maintains an informational website that promotes the park programs and fundraising opportunities.
  4. Communicates on behalf of the Board of Trustees with staff, members, volunteers, Douglas County staff, businesses, and other stakeholders and cultivates positive relations with them.

The Director will also collaborate with the Board of Trustees and the President to ensure the following areas are monitored and addressed as needed:

A. Insurance
Maintain liability, directors/officers, and any other appropriate insurance. 

B. Financial
Approve budgets and conduct top-level financial record-keeping, develop related policies and procedures, manage  accounts receivable and payable, and manage an endowment fund. 

C. Staffing
Select and retain salaried and contract employees including a Director

D. Contracts
Develop and/or approve vendor contracts. 

E. IRS and Government Registrations 

Complete IRS annual filings and related paperwork, and maintain state and local government registrations.
