DEPARTMENT: Education
SUPERVISOR: Volunteer Coordinator
HIRING RANGE: $3,400 stipend, paid in two equal installments at the midpoint and completion of the internship
WORK SCHEDULE: On-site, 20 hours/week June 1 – August 7, 2026, or 200 hours total

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The Crocker Art Museum is dedicated to promoting an awareness of and enthusiasm for human experience through art. We measure our success by our ability to enrich the intellectual and cultural life of the communities we serve. This internship is designed specifically for graduate students. It aligns with our mission by assisting the Department in creating, implementing, and evaluating programs that welcome and inspire diverse audiences, while offering mentored professional experience and transferable skills to advance your museum education career. 

SCOPE OF WORK:
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Contribute to the design and advancement of strategic program initiatives through applied research and analysis.
  • Help design and implement audience surveys, interviews, and evaluations.
  • Attend and support in-person programs and special events.
  • Design and complete an independent project, from proposal through implementation and presentation.
  • Attend informational meetings with staff to understand the Museum’s structure and see how teams support its goals.
  • Complete guided reflections during the internship and submit a final report for the Crocker Art Museum blog highlighting key insights and professional growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Arts, Education, or a related discipline.
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program.
  • Completing an internship for credit or as part of an academic requirement.
  • Previous museum experience is not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaboratively.
  • Committed to advancing diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and related productivity tools.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Develop transferable workplace skills by supporting the daily operations of the Education Department in an accredited art museum and non-profit organization, including program coordination, visitor engagement, and administrative workflows.
  • Knowledge of museum education and arts and culture administration.
  • Independent project, showcasing research-to-practice application.
  • Receive mentored feedback and build professional networks to support career advancement.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and walk; sit for long periods of time; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.  
 
Examples of physical tasks may include:

  • Setting up or taking down education programs in studios or multipurpose spaces within the Museum.
  • Moving and arranging tables, chairs, sign holders, art supplies, or other program materials with assistance or equipment as needed.
  • Guiding artists or vendors from the loading dock to event spaces.
