About the opportunity
Fahrenheit is an independent research library working to make public domain collections freely available for research and education. We digitize materials held on paper and microform in libraries and archives, helping bring offline records into wider use.
We’re seeking currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students to help digitize collections in their own regions. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with historical materials, digitization, and image quality review while contributing to public access to knowledge. Students from all academic disciplines are welcome.
Responsibilities
-
Help identify public domain records at nearby public libraries and archives that would benefit from digitization.
-
Handle and scan paper and microform materials according to Fahrenheit’s handling guidelines.
-
Check images for completeness, focus, and correct page order, and deliver them to our team.
-
Work respectfully with library and archive staff and follow each institution’s rules.
Requirements and qualifications
-
Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
-
Ability to regularly visit public libraries or archives in your area.
-
Interest in history, libraries, archives, or research.
-
Strong attention to detail and patience with precise, repeated work.
