Newfields, an innovative cultural institution in Indianapolis, seeks an accomplished and collaborative Curator of American Art to lead the interpretation, care, and development of its nationally respected American Art collection. With nearly 1,000 paintings and sculptures and access to thousands more works across media, the collection includes major pieces by Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, Grant Wood, and Horace Pippin.
The role offers a rare opportunity to lead a full gallery reinstallation, shape acquisitions strategy, and reimagine interpretation through inclusive, accessible storytelling. The Curator will organize exhibitions, conduct original research, support donor and board engagement, and work collaboratively across departments to advance Newfields’ civic and cultural mission.
Candidates should bring strong curatorial credentials, at least five years of experience, and a commitment to expanding the canon of American art.
