DEPARTMENT: Education
SUPERVISOR: Volunteer Coordinator
HIRING RANGE: $3,400 stipend, paid in two equal installments at the midpoint and completion of the internship
WORK SCHEDULE: On-site, 20 hours/week June 1 – August 7, 2026, or 200 hours total

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The Crocker Art Museum is dedicated to promoting an awareness of and enthusiasm for human experience through art. We measure our success by our ability to enrich the intellectual and cultural life of the communities we serve. This internship is designed specifically for undergraduate students. It aligns with our mission by assisting the Education Department in creating, implementing, and evaluating programs that welcome and inspire diverse audiences. Additionally, this opportunity offers an undergraduate intern meaningful, hands-on training in museum education that they can carry forward into their future career.

SCOPE OF WORK:
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support strategic program development and research.
  • Contribute to audience insights through research and evaluation.
  • Attend and support in-person programs and special events.
  • Collaborate on an education project that aligns with the intern’s goals and interests to be determined in conversation with the Volunteer Coordinator and Director of Education.
  • Attend informational meetings with staff to understand the Museum’s structure and see how teams support its goals.
  • Complete guided reflections during the internship and submit a final report for the Crocker Art Museum blog highlighting key insights and professional growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program.
  • Completing an internship for credit or as part of an academic requirement.
  • While a demonstrated interest in the Arts, Education, or related discipline is preferred, students in all majors are welcome to apply.
  • Previous museum experience is not required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaboratively.
  • Committed to advancing diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and related productivity tools.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Build professional skills by supporting the daily operations of the Education Department in an accredited art museum and non-profit organization.
  • Increased knowledge of museum education and arts and culture administration.
  • Opportunity to collaborate on a special project aligned with academic or professional interests.
  • Receive mentored feedback and build professional networks to support career development.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and walk; sit for long periods of time; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.  

Examples of physical tasks may include:

  • Setting up or taking down education programs in studios or multipurpose spaces within the Museum.
  • Moving and arranging tables, chairs, sign holders, art supplies, or other program materials with assistance or equipment as needed.
  • Guiding artists or vendors from the loading dock to event spaces.
