Why Volunteers?

Volunteering with WMA is a great way to meet and network with a variety of museum professionals from across the Western U.S. and beyond! Connecting with colleagues will expand your perspective on the museum field, introduce you to new cultural institutions and museum-related businesses, as well as open your mind to various potential careers and opportunities that are available. As a volunteer, you'll work directly with WMA staff to get a unique, behind-the-scenes look at what goes into running an Annual Meeting.

In exchange for hours worked, WMA volunteers can attend an equal amount of hours of non-ticketed Annual Meeting networking Events and learning Sessions. Volunteers must work for time periods equal to a minimum of 4 hours; this can be broken up into two-2 hour shifts or one-4 hour shift.

Additionally, throughout the Annual Meeting, WMA volunteers will be welcome to join attendees during the free Exhibit Hall lunches and receptions for a chance to network over some delicious food and beverages.

Critical Roles of WMA's Volunteers

As a WMA volunteers you can expect to do the following:

  • Welcome and greet attendees
  • Put together attendee name tags and welcome bags
  • Hand out registration packets at the registration desk
  • Take a headcount of individual sessions
  • Support the session speakers when needed
  • Answer questions from attendees throughout the events
  • Assist with the Silent Auction event - display items and pick up sold items
  • Take tickets at certain ticketed events
  • And a whole lot more!
