Do you have a vision for the future of museums? Are you passionate about strengthening museums to help them serve their diverse communities? Or are you looking to get further involved in the museum field, while helping to serve your own institution and colleagues?

If so, then you might be a good fit for WMA’s Board of Directors, and we warmly invite you to submit your nomination for the 2023-2026 term.

Comprised of some of the West's most dynamic and innovative leaders working in museums and cultural institutions, WMA’s Board of Directors helps guide WMA's mission, contributes to the general oversight of the organization, and collectively works to ensure WMA provides educational, enriching, and timey opportunities for all those who work in the museum field.

What exactly is involved in being a WMA Board Member? Throughout each year, individual Board Members are asked to partake in three meetings (virtual and in-person), act as a WMA ambassador, attend WMA’s Annual Meeting (held every October), and serve on one or more Board Committees:

  • Programs & Innovation Committee
  • Membership & Community Development Committee
  • Finance & Investment Committee
  • Policy & Impact Committee

In return for such valuable contributions and time, the WMA Board will offer you the unique chance to enhance your professional skills, nurture your creative side, and learn from your peers all while representing both your institution and region. What’s more, is your involvement will positively support and affect change not just within WMA's operation, but within the greater museum field.

“WMA is a wonderfully connective and nurturing community. In my time serving this community as part of the board, I have benefitted from deep relationships built over the years, which have been, and continue to be, a lifeline in my professional and personal life. Before WMA, I hadn’t encountered such an inclusive and welcoming group of humans and, each year, I grow my community with more wonderful museum folk working in all aspects of our field.” – Lorie Millward, Vice President of Possibilities at Thanksgiving Point, and WMA Board President

If you're passionate about the museum field as a whole and would like to show your support through actions on the WMA board, we encourage you to submit your nomination today!
