ROM, Canada’s largest museum ($80M budget, 13M objects), globally renowned, seeks Deputy Director for Collections & Research/Chief Innovation Officer (DDC&R/CIO). The DDC&R/CIO is a senior partner to the CEO and plays a critical museum-wide role in fostering strategic innovation and creativity, promoting transdisciplinary thinking, and positioning ROM as a global thought leader. The DDC&R/CIO reports to the CEO and oversees museum-wide research, publishing, and innovation and the staff (92) and budgets ($11M) of the curatorial, collections, library, and conservation divisions; partners on gallery master-planning, the special-exhibition program, and interpretive development/design; and supports the 10-year strategic plan and fundraising. DDC&R/CIO is an essential leader who contributes to the ROM’s overall direction-setting and strategic planning. Seeking a broadly skilled, sophisticated museum professional with 7+ years’ experience as a senior leader (Director, Deputy Director, Chief Curator, Chief Scientist, etc.) and 15 years’ total professional experience, including curatorial, at large museum. M.A. required; Ph.D. preferred. Strong leadership/mentoring skills, confident; creative problem-solver, good at priority-setting.
