Job Description: 

The Education Programs Manager works to identify goals and objectives of the Education Department based on the Museum’s overall strategic planning, builds an annual strategic plan and budget to accomplish those goals & objectives. The Education Programs Manager will work closely with the Education Programs Specialist, other staff, interns, and volunteers to accomplish goals and objectives set forth in the annual strategic plan.

 

General Overview of Typical Responsibilities:

• Lead educational programming and curricula that ties back to the Strategic Plan.

• Enhance communication efforts by identifying unifying themes and developing content for internal and external audiences.

• Working with the Executive Director (ED) to seek out and secure grants and other funding.

• Seek innovative new ways to enhance and grow the educational offerings of the Basque Museum & Cultural Center.

• Delegate responsibility and accountability while fostering a strong working relationship with Education Programs Specialist.

• Coach, direct, and train the Education Programs Specialist and new volunteers to achieve actions within the Strategic Plan.

• Provide leadership, management, inspiration, support and professional development directly to Education Programs Specialist and other interns, contractors, and volunteers within Education Department.

• Collaborate with other like organizations (including but not limited to Boise State, University of Nevada, N.A.B.O. and its organizations, The Autonomous Basque Community, local and regional organizations, and more) to increase educational outreach opportunities.

• Works with Curator to produce curriculum-related materials tied to changing exhibitions and traveling exhibits for use in-schools/off-site (web-based resources, curricula, etc.)

• Works with community groups, organizations, school systems and others to increase awareness of the institution as an educational resource.  Develops community collaborations and partnerships to extend organization programs and audience.

• Working with the Education Programs Specialist to organize and coordinate docent program – recruit & train volunteers to assist with student and adult presentations and tours.

• Compiles various monthly and annual reports detailing department activities

• Creating and collecting content for and production of the newsletter  

• Working with Education Programs Specialist to update & create website resources and information as well as social media posts.

• Other tasks as assigned.

 

Skills/Qualifications

• Requires a degree in education, communication, public history, or related field, and 3+ years experience in a similar leadership position.

• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.  Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to multi-task, prioritize and self-manage.

• Sets a comfortable tone and encourages open communication.  Listens attentively and actively.  Promotes team spirit and works collaboratively to achieve team goals.  Thrives in a team environment while working independently.

• Proficiency in MS Office, Canva or other design applications, Wordpress or similar website applications are strongly encouraged.

• Ability to work with and teach a variety of ages – from pre-k through adults.

• Strong verbal skills with bilingual ability in Basque or Spanish preferred.

 

Education Programs Manager must be willing to have a flexible schedule, work some weekends and evenings as needed. This position is full-time, and reports to the Executive Director.
