The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Collections and Exhibitions Manager, UNLV Barrick Museum of Art, College of Fine Arts [R0143763]
ROLE of the POSITION
This position manages the care of the permanent collections and their related ephemera, as well as objects loaned to the museum for rotating exhibitions and related projects. This includes processes of accessioning, deaccessioning, and temporary loans, in line with contemporary museum standards. This position plans, implements, documents, and preserves exhibitions, programs, and projects from inception to completion. If a program, project, or other scholarly activity engages with the collections, this position is involved in the planning and implementation of those activities. This position facilitates access to the collection for scholars and the public. This position teaches, trains, and manages staff, interns, volunteers, and students in collections and exhibitions care/preservation. The duties of this position include research into the collection, contemporary museum standards, and the teaching of this knowledge to others.
Responsibilities include overseeing the care of collections and archives in service to the Museum’s mission and University goals, working with the appropriate staff and volunteers in achieving this objective; preparing materials for various research and educational engagements with a wide range of audiences; completing procedures associated with acquisitions, deaccessions, loans, storage, and insurance of the collection; continuing to develop strong collection maintenance policies and procedures in accordance with the standards of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM); managing all exhibitions, online, onsite, and offsite; working directly with the Executive Director, artists, and curators, to manage exhibition processes: loans, insurance, labels, checklists, installation, shipping..etc.; ensuring that contracts and payments for all visiting artists and speakers are arranged and that accommodations/travel is booked when applicable. During installations, this position manages and communicates with all staff to ensure coordination and teamwork. Additional duties include office administration, grant administration, maintenance of records, composing and editing correspondence, data entry, customer service, and performing related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 1-3 years of collection/exhibition management within a museum, gallery, or other arts institution. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
3-5 years of experience working directly with a wide variety of colleagues, artists, curators, researchers, galleries, K-12 teachers, students, and community members. Ability to work interdepartmentally on a college campus. Knowledge of handling art and archaeological materials, experience in writing grants, and 1-3 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role.
SALARY
Minimum starting salary for this position is $45,450
