Job Description: 

The Curator guides and directs all curatorial functions at the Museum of Idaho, including collections, scholarly and exhibit-driven research, and the museum archives. The Curator performs ongoing curatorial and registrarial functions in the management, conservation, and documentation of items as related to the museum’s collections. The Curator reports to the Sr. Director of Programs and Engagement.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Acquiring and managing collections, maintaining intellectual history of artifacts, and conserving the physical state of museum collections
  • Overseeing all artifact management, environmental conditions, and loans of objects
  • Managing the museum archives and ensuring proper care and collection of archival materials
  • Acting as a public historian, curating and researching local history and artifacts relating to preservation of community cultural memory
  • Working closely with colleagues to develop and/or support engaging exhibits and programs
  • Participating in the planning, designing, researching, writing, installing, and maintaining exhibits that include museum collection items


Desired qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, history, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • 2+ years experience in museum, archival, or research-related field
  • Experience with PastPerfect or other Collection Management System
  • Strong project management, time management, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including computer literacy



  • Salary dependent on experience and qualifications (expected range: $45,000-$55,000/year)

  • Primary worksite is at Museum of Idaho facilities in Idaho Falls, with some remote work as needed
  • Anticipated start date: February/March 2022
