Job Description: 

The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM), Salem, MA, seeks a Head Registrar for its strategic priority of collection accessibility and engagement. Successful candidates will be specialists in museum collection and exhibition registration and skilled, positive team builders and collaborators. Overseeing the Registrars for Exhibitions and Collections and their teams, the Head Registrar is responsible for the general oversight and management of all aspects of the Registration department and support for institutional initiatives.

 

PEM is midway through a full-scale collections move to Hawkes Collection Center in nearby Rowley, MA, a 120,000 square foot facility that also houses the Phillips Library, collections records, archives and conservation. This state-of-the-art facility will unify, preserve, and activate 12,000 years of artistic and cultural creativity represented by 850,000 works of art and culture, architecture, objects in every medium, plants, animals and geological specimens from global antiquity to today. PEM’s curators produce a robust calendar of special exhibitions and collection rotations in over 50,000 square feet of gallery space.

 

Candidates must be experienced managers, energetic, and creative problem solvers. This is a chance to make a major impact across the institution to innovate, shape and refine processes, and steer the flow of activities.

 

Ten years of Registration experience, five years of personnel management required. B.A. in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or closely related field required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. $76,000-$95,000, and benefits package.
