Title: Collections Specialist

Classification: Short‐term/Seasonal

Pay: $20-26/hr.

Duration: 6 months (possibility for long-term extension)

Reports To: Associate Curator of Collections

Summary of The Archives of Falconry:

The Archives of Falconry (TAF) was initially conceived, developed, and supported by several visionary leaders within the Peregrine Fund. Since its inception, TAF has grown into a world‐renowned repository of falconry material culture and historical records. The mission of The Archives is to collect, preserve, and interpret global falconry history, art, literature, and material culture.

Description:

Are you passionate about museums, archives, and cultural heritage topics? The Archives is offering a full-time, hourly position assisting our collections team in the cataloging and digitization of collection objects. This opportunity provides the successful candidate direct experience in museum/archive collections management, digitization practices, and digital asset management. The successful candidate will be part of an exciting project to bring a large collection of books, art, and material culture to a publicly accessible, online platform. The lifting and handling of objects up to 25 lbs. is required. Work is indoors in an office setting.

The successful candidate will be trained in, and conduct, the following duties:

● Create and edit collection catalog records.

● Operate scanning equipment, scan collection objects, and archive associated image files.

● Handle and preserve collection material using best practices.

Preferred Skills and Background:

We are seeking a self‐directed early career professional or student currently enrolled in a related field such as, but not limited to, Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, Library Studies etc. Preferred candidates are highly organized with strong attention to small details. Experience and interest in photography is desirable. Experience scanning archival material, working with image and video files, and handling fragile objects is also preferred. However, training will be provided.
