Job Title: Fiber Arts Studio Programs Teacher

Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Studio Programs Manager, the Fiber Arts Studio Programs Teacher co-creates and leads classes, workshops, special events and drop-in activities for groups of all ages and abilities at the Art School and the Honolulu Museum of Art. This position is responsible for instruction in the designated fiber arts studio, the museum’s galleries, and courtyards and utilizes HoMA’s art collection, exhibitions, and lending collection to encourage creative expression and nurture artistic abilities.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Studio Arts, Art Education, or related field and at least 1 year of teaching experience in a related field.
- Broad knowledge of fiber arts processes, techniques, and skills including pattern design and printing, textile dyeing, fiber and mixed media sculptural forms, weaving, loom work, woven structures and garment design.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse population of students and visitors, including speaking to large groups.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, children, teachers, and members of the public.
- Highly organized, tactful, and flexible.
- Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.
- Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.
Desired Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Studio Arts or Art Education and at least 3 years of teaching experience in related field.
- Knowledge of object-based learning in a museum context.
- Knowledge of Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) pedagogy and Universal Design for Learning.
- Experience teaching Pre-K through adult students, as well as programs for English language learners and students with disabilities.
- Certification in first aid.
- Understanding of the Honolulu Museum of Art’s established identity and dedication to advancing it.
Essential Duties:
- Works closely with the Studio Programs Manager to develop curriculum and teach the museum’s Fiber Arts programs for all ages and abilities, which includes Pre-K – 12 and adult studio programs, as well as programs for English language learners and students with disabilities.
- Integrates HoMA’s collections, the lending collection, and special exhibitions into the Fiber Arts syllabus as well as programs for all ages and abilities.
- Collaborates with the Studio Programs teaching faculty in designing and executing studio programs.
- Collaborates with the Interpretive Resource Manager and Tour Programs Manager to plan and implement programs such as educator workshops, digital resources, and school field trips.
- Communicates specific needs or concerns related to dedicated fiber studios and equipment.
- Works with the Studio Programs Assistant Manager to procure supplies and materials needed for individual programs and events.
- Collaborates with part-time Studio Programs Teachers and Studio Programs Manager to determine the studio’s supply and equipment needs.
- Collaborates closely with part-time Studio Programs Teachers to maintain and manage an attractive and orderly studio that supports a welcoming and conducive learning environment.
- Gathers and prepares all supplies necessary for each program and puts all equipment away at program completion.
- Regularly attends program/department meetings and all professional development workshops.
- Documents progress of programming via photos, data, and evaluations.
- Supervises and leads Teaching Assistants and volunteers.
- Demonstrates a commitment to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion through respectful communication and cooperation with others at all times, continuous training and modeling inclusive behaviors.
- In partnership with HR, supports the leadership team in ensuring equitable experiences, strengthening inclusion acumen, and promoting a culture of inclusivity and belonging that embraces the contributions of all staff.

Compensation
The Honolulu Museum of Art is committed to practicing salary transparency. The hourly rate for this position is $25.00 per hour. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting pay, including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity. Working Conditions and Atmosphere:
Regular Part-Time teachers are expected to work approximately 25 – 28 hours per week. The Art School is open Wednesday through Sunday, with morning and evening classes. Ability to operate general office equipment including computer, copier, printers, fax machine, etc. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, up to 25 lbs. of general office material or equipment.
