Position Announcement

The UVU Museum of Art seeks an enthusiastic, dependable, and collaborative Program Manager of Museum Visitor Experience to be responsible for managing visitor operations and resources.

Reporting to the Associate Director of the UVU Museum of Art, the Program Manager of Museum Visitor Experience is responsible for visitor operations and services and supporting museum leadership with outreach efforts. This position manages the visitor services desk and all components of visitor relations, including supervising visitor services/museum store support staff and leading volunteers/docents in providing excellent customer service to visitors through tours and engagements with the Museum. This position tracks and reports on visitation, forecasts visitor trends, and maintains the Visitor Services and Outreach budgets. The Program Manager schedules and coordinates facilities used for both internal (UVU) usage as well as private events, ensures access to programming for visitors, participates in the planning and execution of museum events/activities focused on visitor engagement, and provides logistic support for exhibitions, programs, and events. This position supports the museum store as part of the visitor services experience. The position also supports museum leadership with communications through eblasts/newsletters, social media, and regional event listings.

Due to the nature of the position, the Program Manager may need to work on Saturdays or evenings based on museum and event hours. This position may be occasionally required to work overtime (for compensatory time or paid overtime for each hour worked over 40 in a workweek).

The UVU Museum of Art opened its new location at Lakemount in May 2023. Recognized for engaged and innovative exhibitions, programs, and partnerships, the Museum embodies the mission and values of the University, expanding arts education in a unique environment that cultivates appreciation for the arts through the interdisciplinary exploration of art, ideas, and experiences. 

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Manage the visitor experience at the museum, including leading the daily operations of the visitor services desk, supervising visitor services/museum store support staff, and ensuring excellent customer service to visitors. Work with museum leadership to assess, evaluate, and improve the visitor experience. Serve as Accessibility Coordinator and assist museum leadership in emergency response as it pertains to museum visitors.
  • Provide support for outreach efforts related to the visitor experience. In collaboration with museum staff and leadership, develop and manage outreach related to visitor engagement. Serve as key point person for scheduling and executing group tours. Support marketing and PR-related visitor engagement. Support museum leadership in the development, promotion, and event planning for the museum membership program. Manage data related to museum membership. Develop and maintain data management of visitors and outreach programs, including mailing lists, visitor survey responses, guest books, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule facilities use for museum programming as well as internal (UVU) and private event rentals in consultation with museum leadership. Manage museum facilities calendar. Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external parties seeking to reserve or use museum facilities. Provide support for executing museum events, programs, and receptions, which may include work on weekends and evenings. Manage data related to facilities use.
  • In collaboration with museum leadership, develop, grow, and maintain the museum volunteer program. Develop and maintain training materials and train volunteers/docents in best practices for museums and customer service. Manage data related to volunteers.
  • In collaboration with museum leadership, support for the retail museum store is provided as part of visitor services and visitor engagement. This includes supervising daily store operations and ensuring best practices, and overseeing merchandising displays/storage, inventory management, and budget tracking.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 
 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, the arts, or a related field. At least two years of customer service experience and one year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:    
Master’s degree in museum studies, the arts, or related field. Experience working in a museum environment. Experience working in higher education. Familiarity with the arts.
