Job Description: 

Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) seeks an experienced museum professional to play a central role in the future of interpretation at its five historic sites and digital media. The Director of Public History (DPH) will conduct research and develop new interpretive plans, training resources, and innovative programs. Must have a sound base in historical research and scholarship, and experience interpreting difficult topics. Responsibilities: create compelling, accurate interpretive material; design digital storytelling tools and pilot new engagement methods; oversee the Public Programs Manager and special events; develop and oversee staff training, audience development, and evaluation tools; contribute to grants and organizational materials. Qualifications: MA in public history, museum studies, American history, or related field; knowledge of Northern slavery and women’s history; 5+ years of managerial experience and 5+ years of programmatic experience at a museum or historic house; broad awareness of innovative historical interpretation; ability to inspire and manage staff; communication and storytelling skills; can work at a strategic level and manage the day-to-day; computer and media skills.
